Tell A Story: Hot Air Balloon

Materials :

      • Paper and crayons or markers

Directions :

      • Tell your child that you'd like him or her to make up a story about a hot air balloon adventure in which he or she is the star.

      • Open the file you bookmarked (see materials). It shows a hot air balloon with clouds floating by. Read the text. "Pretend you are traveling in a hot air balloon. Tell or write a story about your adventure!"

      • Your child may wish to draw the story and then "read their drawing(s)." Or, your child may want to make up a story on the spot. Either is great practice for thinking about story elements.

      • When ready, allow your child to read you his or her story. Express your enthusiasm and gratitude that this story was written for you!

Reinforce The Learning :

Discuss the story your child told. Acknowledge the elements of "story" that your child included referring back to them. Ask your child if they would like to try the Tell A Story activity another time. This helps create positive anticipation for another learning experience.
