Tell A Story: Whale

Materials :

    • Paper and crayons or markers

Directions :

    • Tell your child that you'd like him or her to make up a story about a whale.

    • Open the file that you bookmarked (see materials). It shows an Orca whale. Read the text. "This Orca whale had an adventure today. Make up a story and it out loud or write it."

    • Your child may wish to draw the story and then "read their drawing(s)." Or, your child may want to make up a story on the spot. Either is great practice for thinking about story elements.

    • When ready, allow your child to read you his or her story. Express your enthusiasm and gratitude that this story was written for you!

Preparation :

Reinforce The Learning :

Discuss the story your child told. Acknowledge the elements of "story" that your child included referring back to them. Ask your child if they would like to try the Tell A Story activity another time. This helps create positive anticipation for another learning experience.
