Tell A Story: Panda Bear

Materials :

Flash file: Tell A Story About A Panda Bear

Paper and crayons or markers

Directions :

Review with your child the elements of a story .

Open the Flash file. Tell your child to study the Panda Bear carefully as he/she looks at it. Say that you are wondering what the bear is feeling and that you are not quite sure. You need his or her help to make up a story about this bear.

Read the text.

Your child may wish to draw the story and then "read their drawing(s)." Or, your child may want to make up a story on the spot. Either is great practice for thinking about story elements.

When ready, allow your child to read you his or her story. Express your enthusiasm and gratitude that this story was written for you!

Reinforce The Learning :

Discuss the story your child told. Acknowledge the elements of "story" that your child included referring back to them. Ask your child if they would like to try the Tell A Story activity another time. This helps create positive anticipation for another learning experience.
